Selections Wool Shop has been serving the local community for 33 years based in North Street, Carrickfergus. Managed by local business woman Julie Sandu who has a passion for championing the benefits of knitting and mindfulness supports mental health.
Julie has been recognised and won many awards over the years. She has been recognised for exceptional commitment, excellence and innovation in creating a positive business that supports the local community. She won third place in the British Knitting Awards in 2014 for the Best Independent Store in Ireland. Also the Carrick Times Business Excellence Award 2019 for the Best Craft Company. These pay homage to the commitment Julie invests into her business and community.
Mindfulness and knitting is one of Julie's passions to encourage and serve the needs of all knitters to develop their craft. Recent studies have proven the benefits of knitting and mental health in recent years. It encourages repetitive movements that create a sense of calm and relaxeness in the present moment ( it can also become addictive). Research has shown that people who engage in craft such as knitting and crochet can experience a reduction in stress and ruminative thoughts when they engage in these activities from simple knit and purl stitches to patterns for cosy scarfs.
Julie has knitting and crochet kits available on request for all levels of crafters. Classes are available for beginners to advance knitting and crochet. She will aim to encourage your creativity and assist you with all your knitting and crochet projects. She also runs weekly Knit and Natter classes and secret knitting events. As for your haberdashery needs we have a full range of both classic styles and modern styles. Julie specialises in handmade gifts from hats, jumpers to cosy blankets.
